Welcome message

Welcome to the Newry Cathedral Parish website.

We hope that you will find the site useful and easy to access. Newry Cathedral Parish is a vibrant Catholic community in the Diocese of Dromore. The Diocese of Dromore website has information on a wide range of aspects of diocesan life.

Newry’s long tradition of Christian faith, extending over 1500 years, provides a unique and unbroken line of strong faith practice down to the present day. Due to the efforts of past and recent generations, we are blessed in having four beautiful churches in our parish, including our magnificent Cathedral. Each church has the support of a strong faith community and you are welcome to attend any of the churches, all of which have access for the disabled. Details of the church services and the names of the priests who serve in the parish are provided on this website.

Information about the type and location of the primary and post-primary schools, together with the names of church organisations and societies is available in the Parish Directory. This is also available in booklet form, from the Parish Office, 38, Hill Street (opposite the main entrance to the Cathedral). In addition, the parish publishes a weekly bulletin which includes the prayers and readings for the Sunday Mass, notices, the details of pilgrimages, special events and the times of Masses on Holy Days.

Located on The Mall, at the rear of the Cathedral Presbytery, is Newry Conference and Banqueting Centre which has been extended recently and is used almost every day by various parish groups. The Centre currently accommodates the offices of ACCORD (the marriage counselling service) and the Diocesan Youth Director. The facilities at Newry Conference and Banqueting Centre are available for booking through 028 302 55790.

On the ground floor, in the new extension, Veritas has a comprehensive bookshop and a wide range of religious cards and images. In the same area, Café Krem on the Mall serves a range of food throughout the day.

Newry Parish has an increasing number of newcomers to Newry who are made welcome and attend and take part in church services. Each Sunday morning, Father Wojciech Stachyra SChr celebrates Mass in Newry Cathedral and hears confessions in the Polish language. Please click here for further information. There is also a regular Indian Community Mass at the cathedral.

You are encouraged to support your parish and its priests who depend on your financial support by joining the Offertory Promise scheme and receiving a box of parish envelopes for your contributions. If you are interested in obtaining a box of envelopes please click on the link or call at the Parish Office, 38, Hill Street, or telephone 028 30262586 (Monday – Friday, 9am – 4pm).

We hope that you will find this information useful. Please contact us if we can be of any further help.

Canon Francis Brown, Administrator
