There are three priests belonging to our Diocese of Dromore currently serving in our parish. Two Polish priests also serve in Newry, one from the Society of Christ and one diocesan priest. We are also blessed with two seminarians belonging to the Archdiocese of Armagh. There is also a community of Dominican priests and brothers. Together, they serve the needs of some 29,000 people in Newry Parish.
Acting Administrator: Fr. Desmond Loughran
In June 2018, Bishop Boyce appointed the Very Rev. Desmond Loughran, Parish Priest of Dromore, as acting Administrator of Newry Cathedral Parish.
Canon Michael Hackett
Canon Hackett was born in Augher, Co Tyrone and attended Aughadarragh Primary School and St Colman’s College before studying for the priesthood.
Fr Krzysztof Kosciolek SChr
Born in Piwniczna in the Polish mountains, Fr Krzysztof has been based in Newry since 2013. Fr Krzysztof is a member of the Society of Christ.
Fr Colum Murphy
Fr. Colum Murphy is from Rostrevor and attended St. Mary’s Boys Primary School in Rostrevor, St. Louis Grammar school, Kilkeel and St. Colman’s College, Newry.
Fr Robert Markuszewski
Fr Robert was born in 1973 in Poland and was ordained to the priesthood in May 1998. Before coming to Newry Parish in Autumn 2018, he served as a curate in the diocese of Down and Connor, ministering to both the local congregation and Polish migrants.
Juan Jesus Gonzalez
Juan Jesus was born in Spain in 1991. He is a seminarian of the Redemptoris Mater Missionary Seminary of the Archdiocese of Armagh in Dundalk. He has been in mission in Israel, Mozambique and Argentina. Now he is doing a time of pastoral experience in Newry Cathedral Parish.
Callum is from London. He joined the Redemptoris Mater Seminary in Dundalk in 2012. He is a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Armagh. As part of his missionary formation, he spent some time in the Middle East, in the Holy Land, Dubai and Bahrain. He is currently on pastoral placement in the cathedral parish.
